Maintenance of Certification
As part of an overall enhancement of the maintenance of certification program, the ABIM has added a 20-point requirement for physicians to evaluate practice performance and implement improvements. This requirement can be satisfied via several different pathways or tools, but all programs must include three basic steps: collect data on your practice; reflect on those data, pick a target for improvement, and implement a change to achieve improvement; collect data again to measure the impact of your change and report your results to the ABIM. (For more information, go to ABIM's website.)
QOPI® is the only oncology-specific program that has been approved by the ABIM as a data source for the practice performance component of maintenance of certification. A recertifying oncologist can refer to his/her practice's QOPI data report and select 5 measures to report to the ABIM using the ABIM's Self-Directed Performance Improvement Module. The ABIM site will prompt the oncologist to select one measure for improvement, and request basic information regarding planned improvement efforts. Complete instructions are included in the linked document and slides below.
Completing the requisite steps will earn the participant the ABIM’s required 20 points for practice performance.
